Bookham Rifle Club - Shooting Club in Leatherhead
Bookham Rifle Club has a rich history dating back to 1943 when it was founded as the Bookham Home Guard Rifle Club. The club started shooting at a range located on the Grove Estate in Great Bookham, but soon moved to its current site at Thorncroft Drive in the early 1950s due to outgrowing the previous location. The club is situated in the old walled garden of Thorncroft Manor at the southern edge of Leatherhead, offering a beautifully rural setting with five ranges laid to lawn with all weather covered firing points.
Bookham Rifle Club provides a range of shooting options, including Match Rifle, Lightweight Sporting Rifle, Air Rifle and Air Pistol. The Club has also established a Hunter Field Target section, and in 2006, received Lottery funding to build a new air rifle/pistol range with ten firing points at 10 meters and two points at 20 meters. A second grant in 2007 enabled the Club to replace the old sporting rifle facility with a brand new range of eight points at 20 yards.
In 2015, Bookham Rifle Club received funding from Sport England, Veolia and the Thomas Flack Fund to replace the dilapidated clubhouse and enclose the air range. Following this major rebuilding project, the club now boasts a large, airy clubhouse, a fully enclosed heated air range, and an enclosed firing point on the prone rifle 25-yard range.
The club welcomes members of all skill levels and backgrounds, with several national and international standard marksmen amongst its members, including two Queens Prize winners and National Smallbore Champions, as well as two competitors at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Bookham Rifle Club regularly enters teams in County and National competitions, offering members ample opportunities to hone their skills and compete at a high level.

As a long time clay shooter I decided it was time to have a go at hitting stationary targets. The BFC was one of several local clubs i inquired of, but they replied the quickest and had the facilities I was looking for. I went along for a “look-see” and was impressed so I applied for membership. The membership process is not to painful but there are a few hoops one has to go though before one can shoot. ( police checks etc). In my case this only took a couple of weeks ( perhaps as Ive had a F.A.C in the past) and now I’m a probationary member. Facilities are excellent, Training is informative, all in all I’m impressed.
I’ve been a member at Bookham Rifle Club for the past 7 years, and can thoroughly recommend it. The Club has some of the best – possibly THE best – facilities in and around the M25, is efficiently run and very welcoming to new members.

The Club also has an established Hunter Field Target section. In 2006 we built our new Lottery funded air rifle/pistol range with ten firing points at 10 metres and two points at 20 metres. A second prestigious ‘Awards for All Joint Lottery Grant’ in 2007 enabled the Club to replace the old sporting rifle facility with a brand new range of eight points at 20 yds. In 2015, the Club received further funding from Sport England, Veolia and the Thomas Flack Fund to replace the dilapidated clubhouse and enclose the air range. Following this major rebuilding project, Bookham Rifle Club now has a large airy clubhouse, a fully enclosed heated air range and an enclosed firing point on the prone rifle 25yd range. Numbered amongst its members the Club has several national and international standard marksmen including two Queens Prize winners and National Smallbore Champions as well as two competitors at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. We regularly enter teams in County and National competitions.
