Thimbleby Shooting Ground - Shooting Club in Northallerton

Thimbleby Shooting Ground is a well-equipped shooting range that caters to both members and non-members, open six days a week. It boasts an array of targets suitable for shooters of all levels, with a focus on English sporting clay shooting. Targets include high pheasant, springing teal, and bolting rabbits, with the option to book a flush in advance for a fast-paced finale.
In addition to clay shooting, the ground also features a 40-meter air rifle range with various targets and gun options available for hire. Situated just off the A1/A19, the shooting range recommends booking in advance, although they do their best to accommodate walk-ins.
Thimbleby Shooting Ground utilizes state-of-the-art, wireless-controlled traps, providing consistent clay delivery through a simple card system. This innovative technology allows shooters to activate the traps and track the clays used, making it easy for solo shooters to enjoy a round on their own.

Absolutely fantastic first lesson with Russ today! So highly recommended and set in a stunning location, we loved our experience and will definitely be back again! Thank you Thimbleby shooting & team
Brilliant..im a member now 👌
Absolutely love this place. Whether it be clay pigeon shooting or the air rifle range. All the staff and instructors are professional and friendly. Super easy to find just a few minutes of the a19
Specifically came to do some scope zeroing and pellet testing on the air rifle range. Was told by staff the retractable target system was working only to find out that they aren’t….again. These haven’t worked all this season and no one seems to be bothered about fixing them. Also knock down targets are in desperate need of maintenance. Especially annoying considering the cost of lane hire has increased. Ending up with a wasted journey…..
Great place, can’t fault it!
Great breakfast, dog friendly and a good range of stands.
Thimbleby is actually a very nice shooting ground with a very nice clubhouse very popular with Shotgun shooters where there are very good facilities however the airgun facilities don’t get the same attention and quality facilities. The airgun shooting shed has been there for a number of years and the whole time I have used it the equipment has been broken the target winders never work properly the seats are all broken and the fixed targets are rarely repainted and even after speaking to them about it in the past nothing has changed and bearing it’s the most expensive airgun range in the area I think a little better it’s quite obvious they see their airgun shooters as secondary customers!
Thank you for your reply. In response to your reply, I was a regular customer and on a number of times I brought to your attention a number of times my concerns about the condition of the equipment and lack of maintenance which resulted in me not using Thimbleby. I came back to Thimbleby this year to see if there had been any improvements made and absolutely nothing had changed which is why I stopped using Thimbleby again. I’ve used Thimbleby on and off since it was a portacabin and car park hoping that things would improve but never has. I understand that you may have improvements planned but the very least customers should expect is proper seating that isn’t broken and that both of the retractable target systems work properly which was not the case last time I visited and all of my previous visits
Visited today for the first time whilst on holiday from Northern Ireland.
lovely atmosphere in the clubhouse and the grounds are very well kept.
I had a lesson from Philip which was brilliant, he is very helpful and I learned a lot in such a short time and look forward to trying out the techniques when I’m shooting again.
Next time I’m in North Yorkshire I will be sure to call!
