Cumberland News Rifle Club - Shooting Club in Carlisle

Cumberland News Rifle Club is a thriving shooting community established in June 1950 by employees of Cumberland Newspapers as part of their social club. Today, it is an independent organization with around 90 members based at the Sheepmount Sports Complex in Carlisle.

The club has a rich history, having been located in several different premises over the years before finding its home at the Sheepmount. This newly refurbished range, which was opened in October 1984, is fully accessible to disabled shooters and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including 8 firing points for .22 Rifle at 20 yards, 8 firing points for 20-yard Pistol/Sport Rifle, and 15 firing points for 10-metre Air Pistol and Air Rifle, six of which are Sport Quantum electronic targets. The range also features a large club room with kitchen and toilet facilities.

Members of the Cumberland News Rifle Club participate in a variety of shooting activities, mainly on a postal basis. The club is affiliated with several organizations, including the National Small-bore Rifle Association, the National Rifle Association, and the Scottish Target Shooting, to name a few. Prospective members are welcome to participate in the year-round postal competitions and are encouraged to attend local, national, and international open shoots.
