London Historic Shooting Club - Shooting Club in Brookwood
London Historic Shooting Club is an approved club by the Home Office that was established in 2020 with the goal of providing a welcoming, affordable and accessible environment for young people with an interest in shooting historic firearms, irrespective of the age, design or origin of the firearm. The club caters to both novice and experienced firearms license holders and offers training in safe handling and improvement of marksmanship skills. Members who choose to participate in competitions will have their scores compared with those using firearms of a similar age, ensuring fairness.
For those without their own firearms, the club provides a Spanish Mauser in 8mm and a Swiss Schmidt-Rubin K11 chambered in 7.5 swiss. The club aims to emulate the shooting types for which historic firearms were designed, ranging from long-range bullseye shooting to rapid-fire shooting. Shooting takes place at Bisley National Shooting Centre in Surrey, where ranges from 25 yards to 1000 yards are available.
The club is not a reenactment group but often shoots in period military uniform and equipment that matches one or more of their rifles. Members who are interested are encouraged to participate, although it is not required. There is no dress code other than dressing practically for the weather. In addition to shooting events, the club also organizes social clay pigeon shooting trips to the national shooting centre at Bisley and the A1 shooting ground in Hertfordshire.
