Westland Rifle and Pistol Club - Shooting Club in Yeovil
Westland Rifle and Pistol Club, established in 1938 as a shooting range affiliated with Westland Aircraft Ltd, has evolved into a prestigious private members club. With Home Office approval, the club offers a diverse range of disciplines including lightweight sport rifle, air weapons, prone, 3P, and bench rest. Members also have access to full bore and Black Powder disciplines at local ranges.
One of the most popular disciplines at WRPC is lightweight sport rifle. Participants utilize ordinary sporting rifles or air rifles, with various types of sights allowed, including telescopic sights. This discipline is known for its accessibility, as many suitable rifles are reasonably priced, and ammunition is affordable. Matches consist of Hobbs, Timed Shooting, and sport using turning targets, all shot in the unsupported standing position at a distance of 20 yards on a PL14 pistol target.
The club also offers the prone rifle discipline, where single-shot rifles with heavy barrels and aperture sights are used. Competitors employ shooting slings and shooting jackets made of canvas or leather to enhance stability and precision.
For enthusiasts of air weapons, WRPC provides a dedicated 10m range for competitions. Members have the opportunity to participate in team and individual postal competitions throughout the year, using NSRA 4/89 pistol targets and 3/89 rifle targets.
